Experiment 5 - Cosmic Conversations

This experiment delves into the realm of audio-visual art, using sound recordings from NASA—such as astronaut conversations and the ambient sounds of planets like Earth, Jupiter, Mercury, and Saturn—to generate captivating visuals with p5.js. By translating these celestial sounds into digital art, the project captures the essence of space through dynamic, responsive visuals that visually echo the rhythms and frequencies of these interstellar recordings.

Cosmic Conversations provides an immersive experience, allowing viewers to “see” the sounds of space, bridging the gap between auditory and visual perception and offering a unique interpretation of our universe’s hidden symphony.

  • This section explores on different audio data taken of other planets and converting them into visual aesthetics.

Experiment Five faced challenges in finding authentic audio to represent space, as sound doesn’t travel in a vacuum. Initially, we considered using soundtracks from movies like Interstellar, but copyright issues led us to pivot. Instead, we opted for NASA’s recordings, such as planetary sounds and astronaut communications, to provide a direct and realistic foundation, allowing for visuals grounded in real space exploration.
